Situated in the vicinity of the city of Arad, on the left bank of the Mure║ River in the village of Bodroghiu Vechi, the old Romanian monastery of Hodo║-Bodrog was founded in 1177 by the noble Iacsici family, whose arms can be seen on the frontispiece of the bell-tower. The church was restored in the Baroque style in 1766 and was given a new tower; the narthex and the original minutely decorated iconostasis were preserved. The well-preserved paintings were made in the Byzantine style in the 17th and 18th centuries. Religious objects and Slavonic manuscripts from the 17th century are on display in the museum adjoined to the monastery.
